Mark's profile
I am Mark R. Hailey. I am an Annapolis, Maryland based artist and, through digital art, I have been bringing fine art into the 21st century.
I bring a variety of artistic disciplines into my work to complete a piece ... included hand drawn, acrylic painting, photography, 3D, and digital painting.
I am a classically trained artist, specializing in pencil and pen & ink; and received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Some of my first work was shown at the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, Virginia.
My professional art career began as an artist, producer, and art director in television, honing my skills in 2D / 3D graphics and animation.
As a student of art, I was highly influenced, and encouraged, by my father, Bud Hailey, who was also an artist, and television art director. He had his masters in art education, and taught art and photography.
Bud Hailey specialized in oil painting and gave me a rich education in color, composition, perspective, and balance. In 2009, after 25 years of computer graphics for television, I began combining those skills with my traditional art skills to create fine art digitally.
This conversion from digital screen to digital canvas started with the tenth anniversary of my father's death. To honor him, I decided to recreate one of his oil paintings digitally.
Instead of recreating an exact copy of his work, I chose to do the painting in my own style; as if we had been given the same art assignment in class. I was stunned at the results and realized that digital art sat equally along side oils, acrylics, pastels, and watercolors.
I have continued to push my artistic skill into the digital world and found something more rewarding than the pen, ink, and paper I started out with. For my design work in television, I have won over 60 awards and received 3 Emmy nominations.
