Mercury Swift (they/them) is a visual and performance artist, musician and educator living in Baltimore, MD. They received a BFA in Interdisciplinary Object Design from Towson University. Swift has exhibited work in shows across Baltimore, NYC, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Diego, Providence RI, Deer Isle MN, Gatlinburg TN, Munich Germany, and more. They have participated in the Pentaculum Artist Residency at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, as well as the MoveMove Performance Residency in Baltimore. Swift has instructed classes and workshops in the Baltimore area on flameworking glass, metalsmithing techniques, and butoh-inspired movement art. Swift's art practice varies from flameworked glass and fabricated silver to performance and sound art. Each facet of their studio practice interconnects and inform each other; all of their work is centered around the body and sensory experiences. Visual artworks made by Swift are often used in their butoh-inspired movement performances. Also, their movement practice plays a direct role in the various creation processes involved in their visual artwork.
