Megan's profile

I am a Baltimore-based photographer and musician, born and raised Maryland. I graduated from UMBC in 2013 with a BFA in Photography after receiving my Associates of Arts Degree from Anne Arundel Community College. I utilize film and digital mediums, though I more consistently shoot medium format film which I find beautifully poetic and life-like. Though some would say I was most recognized for my live music photographs of the Baltimore punk, rap, and nightlife scenes, I find that my love for portraiture and nature have filled my heart and soul, my goals and dreams, my social media streams. My dream is to explore much more outside of Maryland and the US, while I have so much love for our Baltimore community.

My personal life-challenges have heavily influenced myself as an artist. I am drawn to highly emotional subjects and their energy, as well as the stillness and healing light paths we find in nature, and in personal moments. I can be quite the introvert, but was raised to think I needed to be extroverted. As an adult I have tried to start embracing going inward, finding the ground, establishing what self-love really means, even when going outside of all the therapy I've put in, nurturing my migraines and chronic pain, my relationships. There though, is where you'll find my self-portraiture, my self reflection, my yearning to find what it means to be truly me, truly authentic.

Currently, I work during the week as an office coordinator at an integrative medicine family and long-time neighborhood practice at Ruscombe Mansion that's focus is working with mistletoe therapy to aid in curing cancer. As a young teen and young adult, I became very bitter about our healthcare system, after being mistreated, overmedicated, and invalidated. The universe eventually guided me into natural healthcare, which then lead me to a position to help others. I often incorporate these passions and pain into my work.

In 2019 I had one of my first solo-photo shows at The Crown called "Finding Voice" which took you through an exploration of portraits of local musicians and artists, onto large scale images from Joshua Tree and Los Angeles where I dreamed to live, onto a timeline of small photographs acting as a journal from heartache, grief, to self discovery, into finding love, and loss. 2020 brought on my second solo-show, Finding Light, which explored a series of 35mm photographs of light pockets found around the city on my every day, including portraits of strong women in my life, and healing light found at the healing center where I work. Before COVID hit, my partner and I shared walls at Rocket To Venus, our favorite local restaurant and bar, to showcase work centered around public transit and travel around Baltimore City.

Outside of working for The Baltimore Sun's City Paper, I have been fortunate to be featured in/ published Marie Claire's "What I Love About Me: Baltimore", BUST Mag, VICE, SPIN Mag, Noisey, and She Shreds Mag.
