Max Shuster is originally from Nashville, Tennessee and has been working in the medium of photography since his early days growing up on a farm. Much later, a brief stint in New Orleans provided a good background in survival skills and comedic adventure. Shuster constructs and photographs scenes using insects, sea creatures, mechanical components, people, and various other subject matter. He uses the light of bare bulbs, flashlights, strobes, and colored theatrical gels instead of the sun. Photography is not necessarily about stepping out into the world and documenting with the aid of natural light, but instead looking inward, creating, and modifying the light upon constructed matter. Max Shuster currently lives and works in Baltimore and still works indoors, most of the time.
