Loring's profile

Artist Bio
Loring Davena Boglioli’s self-taught fiber art skills began in toddler hood, nurturing an insatiable need to sew.  A brief, stifling art school stint contributed little, but professional and life experiences enhanced her compositions with spontaneity, dimension and eccentricity. During a lifetime of practice and perseverance through middle age, an avocation became a vocation.  Awards celebrating volunteerism, historic research and technical dedication to local museums and educational institutions vitalized her work. Loring mastered most traditional American needle arts, but never pursued felt applique, until she got fired from a job for excessive math errors. New glasses, behavioral optometry/vision training and psychotherapy were recommended in 1990. This triumvirate expanded and ignited her design aesthetic, fostering the fabrication of appliqued rugs, transforming a 20-year felt collection and was the genesis for her creative future.

Loring's designs are unabashedly bold, rhythmic, kinetic and playful, emerging from bags of scraps abandoned on her porch, or scavenged from flea markets and yard sales. Completely original, from 100% recycled matrials, unique designs are assemembled using traditional techniques. Loring fuses the venerated and innovative, reinterpreting color, shape and spatial frolic, using various weights and shades of woolens and synthetic fabrics and felts.  “Meticulous hand-stitching”   with various sizes and types of needles and threads on assorted textiles, frequently cut freehand, become undulating, eye-popping designs enjoyed by collectors through out the Northeastern United States.

A New Jersey native retired from twenty years of teaching culinary arts and baking and pastry, Loring resides in Baltimore, where her work  is exhibited in various galleries and craft and arts festivals throughout the  Mid-Atlantic states. Her  fluxuating materials resource stream  is the primary inspiration for her work, where what is last determines  what is next.
