Lee's profile
Lee Conderacci (she/her/hers) is a theatre artist, educator, and critical cultural scholar living in Baltimore. She loves cultivating new theatre and reimagining old plays for contemporary audiences, working as a director, dramaturg, actor, and creative consultant. She is also the founder and director of the Baltimore Playwrights’ Brew (www.bmoreplaywrightsbrew.com), the area’s first and only regular open-mic event for new dramatic works.
Lee’s scholarship and ongoing theatre practice work to develop “survivor-centered theatre,” creating theatrical experiences for an intended audience of survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. Grounded in intersectional feminism and an ethics of care, this practice presents narratives of survivorship in ways that are meant to uplift and empower survivors, offering support and community through the art of storytelling and story-hearing. For her theatre art and scholarship, Lee received the Doctoral Fellowship for Excellence (2023) and the Excellence in Scholarly Community Engagement Award (2022) from the University of Delaware.
Among Lee’s recent directing credits are Angel Street (Gaslight) at Fells Point Corner Theatre, High School Coven at The Strand, and The Odd Couple at Guerilla Theatre Front. Lee has performed at various venues in Baltimore and beyond, including Baltimore Theatre Project, The Motor House, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Baltimore Shakespeare Factory, Gorilla Rep (NYC), Princeton University Players, and the Princeton University Program in Theater and Dance. Favorite roles include Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet and Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show (in four different productions!). She holds a B.A. in English and Theater from Princeton University, a M.S. in Communications from Towson University, and a Ph.D. in English from University of Delaware. Lee is a trained victim advocate for survivors of sexual violence.
Lee is dedicated to imagining new ways of using theatre and the arts to bring people together, to create opportunities for performance outside of traditional theatre spaces, and to amplify the voices of those who have been silenced. She works through art to cultivate communities of care, critical thinking, and courageous creativity—in the theatre and beyond.
