Kristin's profile

I was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1971. When I was young, my family moved east to the Mid-Atlantic region, where I spent much of my childhood in the Washington, DC suburb of Bowie, Maryland. There, I was influenced by the art museums and architecture of the city during family trips to DC. In my home, i was inspired by a beautiful collection of art books and music. I noticed a connection between music and visual ars, but it wasn't until much that I realized that I had synesthesia. I see, in my mind's eye colors, shapes, and movement when I hear music and sounds; like my very own Fantasia.
At an early age, I struggled with acedemics, as a Dyslexic/LD student, and turned to the arts. Creative problem solving and imagination became my survival mechanism. I learned to compensate for my inability to read well.
In 1992 I attended Kutztown University, in Kutztown, Pa. There I studied painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, wood design, and animation. In 1996 I earned a BFA with a concentration in painting.
In 1998, I took a hiatus from painting to raise a family. Since 2003, until recently, I worked as a long-term substitute art teacher (K-12) in Baltimore County Public Schools. I resumed painting full-time in 2016. Currently, I live in Timonium, Maryland and have a studio on Baltimore. I spend most of my time painting and reading about art theory. I enjoy nature walks, cooking, and photography.
