Drawing “performs” the present and creates an artifact, a trace of the movement that made it. These drawings start with an impulse, a movement, a gesture. The gesture becomes a mark, which informs another movement, and another gesture. In this way, the drawings are movement scores, records of a performance. I also engage the emerging images directly to create a visual experience that resonates with the visceral experience of drawing. The conversation of improvisational movement and direct mark-making is a dance about here, now, everything.
