Enjoyment is a functional necessity of my artwork. Whether in the intimate setting of a gallery or on a grand scale through public projection mapping works, these encounters offer a release from the context of the everyday—a temporary spontaneous carnival fostering a sense of community and belonging. The collective experience of joy can instigate open and earnest interactions between people, opening up a shared space for happy contemplation and/or celebration. 

I connect to people through my work with humor and playfulness, borne of careful observation and thoughtfulness. I find joy and inspiration in the work of designers / creators like Alexander Girard and Mary Blair, delighting in the cheery simplicity of bright palettes, simple geometry, and the generosity of handmade craft. Using color, shape, and pattern in festive compositions, I invite audiences to revel in joyous visual experiences, unconcerned with prescribed interpretation or narrative. 

The sense of well-being that stems from this connection can also help us relate to the world in a way that is worthwhile, healthy, and hopeful. This is the goal of my work: beneath the playful rhythms and penny-arcade antics of my work lie deeper social potentialities—where delight and play are a path to contemplation and meaningful interpersonal connection.
