Jonna McKone is an artist, filmmaker, and photographer. Her work spans video and film, documentary, archives, abstraction and long-term collaborations to explore personal and collective histories, land and memory, and overlooked histories.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums including recent shows: Unbound 13 at Candela Gallery (Richmond, MD), Zimmerli Art Museum (New Brunswick, NJ), Art/Sound/Now at Walters Art Museum (Baltimore, MD), Kinetic at Hamiltonian (Washington, DC), Fragmented at Zo Gallery in Baltimore, MD, first last light at Full Circle Gallery in Baltimore, MD, Slow Drift at VisArts in Rockville, MD, and Notes from Home at Powerplant Gallery (Durham, NC / a collaborative project made through a Center for Documentary Studies Fellowship). Her work as an artist and filmmaker has received support from The Maryland State Arts Council, the Andy Warhol Foundatio, the Rubys Artist Project grant and the Puffin Foundation. She has been a Flaherty Film Seminar Fellow, A Points North Fellow, A Center for Documentary Studies Lewis Hine Fellow, as well as an artist in residence at Monson Arts’ Abbot-Watts Photography Residency, Platteforum, Full Circle Fine Art’s Analog Photography Residency, and Skidmore’s Storytellers Institute.
Her first feature film as a producer, All Light, Everywhere (directed by Theo Anthony), premiered in Sundance’s U.S. Documentary Competition in 2021 where it won a Special Jury Award for Experimentation in Nonfiction. She also produced the sci-fi fiction film, YOUR FINAL MEDITATION (2024), MARGIE SOUDEK’S SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS, which premiered at Sundance in 2023 and is now streaming on the New Yorker. Her second feature film as a producer is The Tallest Dwarf which will premiere out South by Southwest in 2025.
