Jenee Mateer holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a BA in Modern Studies/English from the University of Virginia . She is Associate Professor of Photo Imaging and Chair of the Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education at Towson University. In addition to teaching at various colleges and universities, she has also worked as a video editor for Spot Video and Providence Pictures and as the Gallery Director for the Community College of Rhode Island. Many of her images are created through a process of layering of both original photographs and appropriated images. Recent work has also included video installation and work with mixed media materials such as plaster, wax and resin. Through these processes, she explores issues of desire, identity, gender and the complexity of language.
