Reuben's profile

Reuben “Dubscience” Greene is an award-winning photographer, visual artist, documentarian, and videographer who integrates creative expression, entrepreneurship, and collaborative networking into his community-based approach. His creative eye, passion for artistry, and dedication to exploring both conventional and unconventional beauty is reflected within his broad portfolio. He finds inspiration and artistic gratification on numerous “photo walks” where he merges his documentarian and artistic perspectives to capture the layered nuances of the city.

Dubscience is a second-generation professional photographer, hailing from Brooklyn, New York. His talent and love of photography began as a young child submersed in the art form, even learning to walk at his father’s photography studio. He began his formal apprenticeship lasting over ten years under his father Photographer Cornelius Greene, at the age of fifteen. Adding to his technical photography work, he found inspiration from his mother’s craft as a makeup artist, and went on to study lighting design at the Theatrical Design Technology conservatory at SUNY Purchase, Purchase NY. His multifaceted and creative approach to photography has broadened, translating his distinctive vision through the viewfinder in a photojournalistic fashion while maintaining his own brand and style.

His photojournalistic voyage began within Baltimore City’s underground arts, entertainment, and culture scenes; he quickly found a home in the world of performance photography. His classic images of area artists have flooded social media and made performers and fans alike take notice of his work. From there his roster of subjects has grown tremendously, and his performance photography led him to other opportunities to creatively explore his talent. In addition to his regular photography work, he has created short film documentaries, music videos, high fashion photo shoots, and done major event coverage. Many creative producers, including several previous Baker Award winners, community organizations, and musicians have utilized his work.

Over the last 6 years Dubscience served as House Photographer for many different establishments, such as the Nowchild Soundstage, The Get Down, The Rockwell, Terra Café, and The Living Well. In September of 2015, his instillation "FlipSide of Space & Time" was commissioned by MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) as part of the "Intersection" exhibition. “FlipSide” highlighted the spatial and generational connectivity of Baltimore’s creative producers utilizing materials from the cityscape, integrating his ethnographic and creative approach. As an artist rooted within the community, Dubscience is dedicated to facilitating networks of “Artreprenures” in support of artistic community-based economic sustainability. This led him to be a featured speaker for MICA’s curatorial practice MFA program, to help better the relationship between institutional curatorial practices and the artistic community. Currently his commercial work is displayed as part of an advertising campaign on The Baltimore LED Art Board.
