Chelly's profile
Richelle Robinson is a realistic oil painter, born and raised in Baltimore, MD, whose work focuses on capturing the beauty, emotion, and detail of the everyday world. Through careful observation and traditional oil painting techniques, Robinson creates lifelike objects, portraits and scenes that emphasize light, texture, and form.
Her work explores themes of identity, memory, and human connection, with a strong commitment to realism and craftsmanship. By using layered brushwork and rich color, she brings depth and authenticity to her subjects, inviting viewers to pause and reflect.
Robinson draws inspiration from her surroundings, personal experiences, and the people and environments that shape her community. Her goal is to preserve moments in time and translate them into lasting visual narratives through oil paint.
Although Robinson has been practicing oil painting for years, she gained recognition by collaborating with other visual artists throughout Baltimore City, including GoodTimes: A Black Art Experience (February 2024), showcasing her series, The Harlem Stones, to show her ode to Black History and participating with Art With A Heart’s Art Show & Sale (December 2025).
She continues to develop her practice while sharing her passion for realistic painting with others. She is currently working on a personal project, Wake Up…It’ s Time To Play (upcoming 2026), a series of young self-portraits of the artist herself to focus on her self-healing journey and to reveal a hybrid approach, incorporating representational elements to express deeper emotions and the temporary freedom away from the strict rules of realism.
Artist Statement:
“My work as a realistic oil painter focuses on capturing the physical and emotional presence of my subjects. I am drawn to realism because it allows me to slow down and closely observe the details that are often overlooked in everyday life. Through careful attention to light, texture, and form, I aim to create paintings that feel both truthful and intimate. I use oil paint for its richness, depth, and flexibility. The layering process allows me to gradually build the surface, creating a sense of realism and permanence. Each brushstroke is intentional, contributing to the overall structure and mood of the painting. My subjects are inspired by the people, objects, and environments around me. I am interested in preserving moments and expressing a quiet connection between the viewer and the subject. Through realism, I seek not only to represent what I see, but also to communicate a sense of presence, emotion, and humanity. My goal is to create work that invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find meaning in the ordinary.”
