Brendan Carroll was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and studied psychology and art at Providence College. He worked as a counselor and painting instructor for young adults with neurological disabilities and published articles investigating memory. Carroll has lived in New York City where he worked at Columbia University conducting brain imaging research on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He also served as an art therapy group leader at Head Start. Carroll often travels to New Orleans and spent time working for the Odgen Museum of Southern Art and Louisiana Art works. Currently, Carroll lives and works in Baltimore and is completing a MFA at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Carroll synthesizes his experience with psychology and art to create paintings that interpret memories of emotional situations. His paintings are nonrepresentational and use color and form to convey the sense of an experience without depicting particulars.
