Amy's profile

Amy Klainer is a studio artist, designer and jeweler who lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland. The components and surfaces found in her work are referential of those found in public utility systems, construction equipment – systems used for building both physical and interpersonal connection. Klainer’s jewelry is comprised of individual steel hand sawn and/or welded forms, which are then assembled into larger constructs. These components become markers for the time spent as a maker, and afford a connection to time’s passing. When worn, connection is formed to the wearer of the work as they assert identity through the object, assimilating part of the jewelry’s aesthetic as their own. Klainer currently works at Maryland Institute College of Art as the First Year Experience Form & Space Studio Manager.
She earned her MFA (Studio Art) from Towson University in 2010, where she also worked as the Jewelry & Metalsmithing Studio Technician.  Klainer’s work has been included in shows at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington DE, Velvet daVinci Gallery, San Francisco CA, and Heidi Lowe Gallery, Rehoboth Beach, DE. She is currently an artist member at Hamilton Arts Collective in Baltimore, MD.
