Alex Ebstein is a Baltimore based artist and curator. She makes mixed media, tactile abstractions using found, readymade, and traditional materials, most notably yoga mats. Her work borrows materials used in gym equipment, yoga, and dance studios, and DIY construction projects to examine the tropes of self-help, wellness, boutique fitness trends, and the white cube. Her recent solo and two-person exhibitions include Current Space, Baltimore; Victori + Mo, New York; De Novo, Washington, DC; Terrault Gallery, Baltimore, MD; Frutta Gallery, Rome, Italy, and she has been included in group exhibitions at Asya Geisberg Gallery, NYC; Katzen Museum, Washington, DC; The Delaware Contemporary, Wilmington; Marymount University, Arlington; West Chester University, PA; Crossing Collective, New York; The Remix at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn; Circuit 12, Dallas; and Galerie L’Inlassable, Paris, France. She was invited to be a resident artist at Tilleard Projects Residency, Lamu, Kenya in 2018. She previously founded and directed three galleries in Baltimore: Nudashank, Phoebe, and Resort. She earned a BA in Studio Arts from Goucher College and an MFA from Towson University.
