Alexander's profile

Alexander D’Agostino is an interdisciplinary artist and independent researcher based in Baltimore, Maryland. Since graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2009 with a BFA in painting, D’Agostino has been reclaiming and reimagining queer histories through visual art, performance, and installation. His work combines archival material from queer histories with myth-making and ritual, creating space to honor past generations and posthumously liberate them. He describes his process as embodying research and being "possessed" by the feelings and stories he uncovers, turning historical marginalization into acts of reclamation and artistic transformation.

D’Agostino’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including venues such as Vox Populi (Philadelphia), VisArts (Rockville), the Center for Contemporary Art of Afghanistan (Kabul), Chashama's Summer Performance Series (Manhattan), the Itinerant Performance Art Festival at the Queens Museum, the Walters Art Museum, Transformer DC, the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, Siren Arts Summer Performance Series, Target Gallery (Alexandria), the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower (Baltimore), and the Folger Shakespeare Library (Washington, DC).

His projects have been published in Art of the Grimoire by Owen Davies, Portraits by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, Emergency Index: An Annual Document of Performance Practice (Ugly Duckling Presse), Transformer20 (Transformer DC), and Bmore Art. D’Agostino has also contributed as a guest writer for the Folger Institute’s research blog, Collation.

Through his work, D’Agostino bridges art, history, and storytelling, creating interactive and immersive experiences that explore the intersection of queer culture, ritual, and memory.
