Carol's profile

Carol Hess has been making dances for nearly four decades. Born in New York City, she trained there as a dancer, and began a performing career in modern dance and as a tap soloist. In the genre of modern dance, much of her recent choreography has focused on the interaction between dance and video. Many of her dances for the stage feature the use of live camera feeds and/or pre-recorded images. She also choreographs, films and edits dances for the camera. Her dance films have been screened at film and video festivals in the United States and abroad. She is co-Artistic Director of Baltimore Dance Project, a company featuring excellent dancers in the Baltimore area. She recently presented site specific work for the AKIMBO Dance Walk in the Station North Arts District in Baltimore. Her choreography has been presented in New York at the Cubiculo, Dance Theater Workshop, the Grand Finale, the New York Fringe Festival, and in Germany and The Netherlands. She currently chairs the dance department at UMBC.
