Lauren's profile

Lauren Withhart is a dance artist based in Baltimore since 2005 and is Artistic Director of withhart.dance.projects. Receiving her MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Maryland and her BFA from Florida State University, Lauren is a versatile mover and prolific choreographer. Her technical training is based in the Graham and Lewitzky techniques, having studied with and performed repertory from The Martha Graham Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and Lynda Davis. Her current studies are focused in somatic practice, improvisation, and post modern performance theater.

Known for her unique collaborations, her works have been seen in New York at Movement Research, Judson Church, The Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, Triskelion Arts, and Green Space; in Maryland at Baltimore Theatre Project, Baltimore Museum of Art, AREA 405, The Creative Alliance, The LOF/t, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Joe's Movement Emporium, Goucher College, Howard Community College; Washington DC's Dance Place; and in Florida at Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College. She has also presented in non-traditional and site specific venues throughout the Baltimore area.

Lauren has performed with Women's Dance Project (FL), VTDance/Vincent Thomas (MD), Gesel Mason Performance Projects (DC), Adriane Fang (DC), and PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER (NY).

Lauren maintains her long-standing relationship with The Collective, a Baltimore-based collaborative modern dance company as a performer, choreographer, and teacher. As an educator, Lauren has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Community College of Baltimore County, University of Maryland Baltimore County, guest teacher at the Peabody Institute and The Dance Exchange. In 2008-2010, she received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the University of Maryland.
