Jennifer N.'s profile

Jennifer N. Shannon (@writerjns) is a native of Cheraw, SC which is also the birthplace of famous jazz musician, Dizzy Gillespie. While she has lived in several cities both in the south and north, she has kept her southern heritage as a foundation in her writing.

Jennifer has written and published three books and she has had short stories and poems published in several literary magazines such as "Deep South," "The Auburn Avenue" and an essay in "North Dakota Quarterly." Three of her poems were published in the 2019 anthology, tender, a literary anthology and book of spells: evidence and one of Jennifer's photographs was selected as part of  the Maryland State Arts Council Exhibit titled "Identity." 

Recently, Jennifer was awarded a fellowship from The Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing and a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council for Independent Artists. She was also selected and served as a panelist for the 2021 Maryland Heritage Awards and was chosen for the Hurston/Wright Foundation  2021 Writer's Weekend for Fiction.

REVOLT: Black Joy Still Exists, It Always Will, a virtual exhibition showcasing Black Joy, Black Love and Black Excellence, is Jennifer’s latest creative endeavor. She’s also writing her second novel and enjoying everything that comes with living and loving without limits.
