My series entitled Daddy Issues (2010) is comprised of large-scale nudes (all 20x60â?.) It was titled in jest and wasnâ??t meant to have any social commentary. All of the models were chosen and photographed because I found them particularly enchanting and open to the endeavor. In fact, one of models happens to be my personal photographer and muse. The ears, tails, and striations are carryovers from my previous self-portrait series entitled For the Gusto (2009.)

"Manimals" (2010) began as a graphite illustration. I then blew the illustration up, printed it on canvas, and used a combination of gouache and acrylic washes to add color. Final size : 44 x 30"

In "For The Gusto" the abstractions within the portraiture were meant to maintain my anonymity. 10â??s of thousands of hand painted bubbles provide an ephemeral balance to the piece; fading in and out of existence. All of which are given 3 and 4 coats of paint to provide for what I can only describe as a â??faux-impastoâ? look. I block in the skin tones loosely and gradually tighten them up while lying in the black ink hatching. As the paintings within the series progress, the hair becomes more detailed, the eyes and lips find more expression, the contours become effortless, and I fall more and more in love with the process and the subjects.
