This is a large wall installation. There are press molded houses in the style of middle class suburban homes. The five paint strips are five of the 'color of the year' by Pantone.

Indoor Garden Olla 2.jpg

This is a large scale coil built olla. Olla's are vessels that hold water and are unglazed at a certain portion allowing water to soak into the porous clay body and water plants around it. This is a structural olla in the shape of a truss. It is glazed earthenware with grass growing at the top.

This is an extruded and handbuilt olla. Olla's are vessels that hold water and are unglazed at a certain portion allowing water to soak into the porous clay body and water plants around it. This is a structural olla with a decorate feature as the lid. The lids decoration is inspired by the Acanthus Mollis leaf which is the same leaf used in the designs of Greek Corinthian columns. This is glazed stoneware.

Exploring the Decorative

With this project I am starting to explore the long history, meanings, and representations of the plant 'Acanthus Mollis' and the decorative influence its had over generations. This plant is the inspiration for Greek Corinthian columns. The leaves of this plant are ornate and beautiful which lends endless potential.

The top section of this sculpture is a lid. When you lift the lid you can fill the bottom three sections with water. The bottom section is not glazed allowing the water to absorb into the porous clay body. If there were plants around the sculpture it would water them.

Processing Construction

With this body of work I examined middle class homes during the construction process. I explored the development of a house and how it becomes a home. I was drawn to the ephemeral quality of these interior spaces and the participants and/or occupants that created and inhabited them.
