Posters

Show posters are the perfect synthesis of visual artists and musical acts supporting one another. A great poster can bring people to a show and set the anticipated mood for the event. I particularly love screen printed posters because they are easily produced and distributed and, as an added bonus, they provide an artful but inexpensive souvenir for performers and attendees alike.
In my poster designs I try to best represent the performers involved or the mood of the event while maintaining a unique personal approach. My design philosophy always boils down to 2 basic principles:
1. Make it by hand
2. 99% of the time, the wrong way is the right way.

Community

Community is a hand made book produced in the winter of 2010. It centers on the subject of Ted Bundy's 20th century murder spree, but abstracts the ideas, providing different view points, surreal juxtapositions, and limited vocabulary to illustrate the hysteria surrounding the case.
This book is self-published, 7"x8.5", 20 pages, Riso printed with screen printed covers in an edition of 100. These excerpts are presented in full spreads as if you were viewing the actual book; 2 pages, side by side.

Moribund '74

Moribund '74 is my contribution to the Closed Caption Comics anthology issue 9. It loosely relays the discovery of an alternate reality by a presidential couple and the consequences and tangential relationships created by the discovery. The title is derived from the idea of being nearly dead or obsolete which parallels the plight of the characters within the story.

Closed Caption Comics 9 is a self-published, 6"x9", 192 page, perfect bound anthology produced in collaboration with 10 other artists. These excerpts are presented in full spreads as if you were viewing the actual book; 2 pages, side by side.

Calf

Calf is the fourth piece in an ongoing series of publications revolving around the idea of a parallel universe, called the "Statue Realm". The loose plotline runs as follows: In the near future the world we know is razed by fire. A small number of individuals mysteriously escape the flames of Helter Skelter and discover themselves in a strange and exotic place. Each book follows a different 'survivor' for a short period of time. Calf introduces a young heiress and her shape-shifting savior.
This book is self-published, 5.5"x8.5", 24 pages, Screen printed covers, Xeroxed insides, in an edition of 100. These excerpts are presented in full spreads as if you were viewing the actual book; 2 pages, side by side.

Marginal Ecstasy

Marginal Ecstasy is the first book in an ongoing series of publications revolving around the idea of a parallel universe, called the "Statue Realm". The loose plotline runs as follows: In the near future the world we know is razed by fire. A small number of individuals mysteriously escape the flames of Helter Skelter and discover themselves in a strange and exotic place. Each book follows a different 'survivor' for a short period of time. Marginal Ecstasy introduces a nameless and bewildered man and the half-worm, hunter, Poor Tal.

â??Marginal Ecstasy or Existence in a Place Withoutâ?¦
This book contains images of, from, pertaining to the Statue Realm. A half-reality. Our reality was burned. Few arrived in the Statue Realm. In this realm things may change in an instant or never at all. Stone may be flesh & flesh may be stone.

â??We are all thatâ??s left and there is not much left of us. If the water is your mirror than your reflection is distorted.â?

This book is self-published, 7"x8.5", 40 pages + a hand-printed cd-r, Xerox printed with screen printed covers in an edition of 100. These excerpts are presented in full spreads as if you were viewing the actual book; 2 pages, side by side. The Cd-r included is a 6 track soundtrack to the events which unfold within the book created using tape, feedback loops, and effects.

MicroKingdom Album Design

In the fall of 2009 I was asked by my friend Marc Miller to give a shot at some cover art for the new record by his Baltimore-based No-jazz outfit, Microkingdom. I was honored to have been asked and a fan of their previous LP, Microkingdomâ??s Pro Hour so I gladly accepted the challenge. In the spirit of Piet Mondrian, I tried my best to capture the rapturous insanity contained within the span of the new record, titled â??Three Compositions of No Jazzâ? in reference to Anthony Braxtonâ??s 1968 debut, â??Three Compositions of New Jazzâ?. I delivered the finished product and the rest is history.
Microkingdomâ??s â??Three Compositions of No Jazzâ? should arrive in record stores near you in January 2011 via Baltimore label Friends Records.

B & P

B&P is the moniker of my ever-evolving sonic endeavors. I have been exploring sound as a means of artistic output for 6 years now, in the process, producing more than 20 releases. I have long been enamored with the power of ambient music and produce these recordings as a means of mental liberation and honest respite from everyday life. These excerpts are presented as fractions of much larger pieces.
