Jenny's profile

Jenny O'Grady makes book sculptures out of beans and tape and fabric and whatever else she fancies at the moment. For several years, she taught book arts as an adjunct professor in the University of Baltimore's Creative Writing and Publishing Arts MFA program, where she earned her MFA in 2006. By day, she writes for UMBC.

Jenny is editor of The Light Ekphrastic (www.thelightekphrastic.com), an online literary journal that since 2010 has paired more than 400 writers and visual artists to create new work -- many of them from Baltimore and the surrounding area.

In addition to being a 2013 b-grant winner, Jenny was the 2013-14 writer-in-residence for HoCoPoLitSo (the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society), through which she shared her book arts and poetry with students at each Howard County high school. Jenny was one of five Baltimore writers featured in the 2009 "Emerging Writers" issue of Urbanite magazine. Her poetry has also been published in the Little Patuxent Review, The Rusty Nail, Welter, Cobalt, What Weekly, Everyday Genius and Splotches: Visual Pulse. She contributed a page spread to And, Afterward, a collaborative book arts/poetry project. Her book, "Autobiography," was included in the 2009 Bind-O-Rama on Philobiblon.com, the Book Arts Web.

She is a native of Maryland's Eastern Shore, where she grew up on a beautiful farm on the Choptank River.
