Scouting
Selected images from my time as a volunteer scout leader.
The Boy Scouts of America came to the USA in 1910 and is the best way I know of to teach leadership and outdoor skills. Lord Baden-Powell got it right.

BroadcreekThis is one of my most popular images. This is also one of my favorite memories. I was in the canoe in the middle of the group -- we were headed back to Camp Oest after spending the night at an outpost down river. Early morning - kids and parents were exhausted but energized - at peace with ourselves, our relationships and our paths. Camp Oest -- Part of Broadcreek Memorial Scout Reservation owned by the Baltimore Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Camp Oest is a transformative experience for young and old - magical even.

The wonder of the outdoors
Unless our children feel the outdoors in their hearts and souls - they will have no reason to care for it, when we are gone. In this project, I like to show the hope I have, that they do care.
Note: I have model releases for all children.

My Heart and Soul
A quarterhorse and a husky - they both found me - and I am so grateful for their gifts.
They know what I'm feeling, what I'm thinking -- most of the time before me. Through them I am able to breathe and try in some small way to give back to this earth and all its beings.

Morocco - 30 years later
I first went to Morocco right out of high school - these photos show my innocence, love of people, and no fear. The confidence of youth. The ones taken 30 years later are mostly of things --- except on occasion, I felt invasive with my camera. Possibly because the first time I was there for 4 months vs. 2 weeks; or maybe just because I was less interested in people.
Depression
All these images were made when I was depressed. My father committed suicide in 1974, my brother in 1977 and I was hospitalized in August of 1990. My youngest son also deals with depression. We both take medication and will probably do so for the rest of our lives. I am very thankful that it is available. Being able to express my thoughts of suicide or hopelessness in image form somehow helps. I can always kill myself tomorrow.

Great Sand Dunes National Park
One of my goals is to visit as many of OUR National Parks as I can. So when my husband and I packed up our 1953 airstream and headed to his Navy re-union, we decided to spend a couple of days at Great Sand Dunes NP.
Birds of Prey
As a volunteer photographer for Patapsco Valley State Park, I was given the honor of taking publicity shots for the members of Scales and Tails ( an outreach program based at Soldiers Delight State Park). It was a blast -- the birds all had their own personalities- some were even coy.
