Felipe's profile

I am currently one of the top music students at Howard Community College. As a musician, I get to wear various different hats, such as a music educator, performer, director, arranger, and composer. My passion for music expands into other areas such as psychology, neurology, and physical therapy. To me, music is not only an art, a language, and an emotion, but also a healing tool.
My very first performance took place when I was four years old, but I have always loved music, and even before that I would smile through all the concerts that my parents would perform at as singers. My very first piano lesson took place when I was 7 years old, and I haven’t let go ever since that day. I grew up in a house full of music, but most of all love, which is what made me the musician that I am today, and inspired me to pursue a career in music therapy.
Today, I perform at various different venues in the Baltimore area as a jazz pianist, lead worship in churches around the area, and teach piano, guitar, bass, and percussion students. Thanks to the insights that I have been given in arranging classes, I am able to teach musicians how to blend in a band, and what adjustments they need to make in order to stay away from other instruments and not have a musical mess. As a music therapist, I have volunteered in nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, and schools, and currently am working on a music therapy Bachelor’s degree.
In the future, I plan on graduating with a music therapy degree, along with a jazz performance degree from the Berklee College of Music. After that, I will get a masters degree in music therapy, and a doctoral degree in psychology. I plan to revolutionize the field of music therapy by adding new depth, research, and methods to what already exists. I am very excited about my future, and can’t wait to see the benefits of the gifts that I have been given, with the impact that they will have in my field of study.
