An Exploded View of Time is an album of seven compositions for solo alto saxophone exploring the perception of time and the power of sound and music to reveal truths about the nature of reality. The album is the culmination of a multi-year exploration of extended techniques for the saxophone. I was specifically focused on the technique of circular breathing, the posibilities of polyphonic textures on a monophonic instrument, and the melodic potential of the harmonic series.

“Mother” was released in February 2020 and written in collaboration with producer/singer-songwriter Jennifer Pague of Vita and the Woolf. The lyrics suggest fraught feelings between mother and child without explicitly describing a conflict. While writing and recording the music for “Mother,” Jennifer pushed Britt and Melissa to embrace experimental synth sounds and electronic beats.

We assign a value to objects, and those same objects can shift meaning depending on perspective, time in history, and their given cultural context. How does a society come to these determinations, who has dominion over what is highly valued or not? As an artist, there's no doubt I make choices of what to keep precious or otherwise discard in my studio. In my current studio practice, I cut up older completed drawings, in some cases works I've held on for years, and now use for collage material to redefine their value and purpose.
"gala." is a memoir-- an exploration of girlhood, vulnerability, trauma, and silence.

the entirety of "gala." was written and performed by nina, recorded by jon birkholz at hippo hut and mixed by chris freeland at beat babies recording studio.
LYRICS:

born wet: 7:14
theres so many words i've never spoken
tiny jewelry lockets never opened
i buried my tiny mind in sand and snow
i tucked away my love in the back of the top drawer

i was born wet
but i had to walk
made to speak
