The Democratic People’s Republic of United States

> Two videos play on each monitor screen simultaneously.
The voices excerpt from UN speech 2017

There has been a conflict between The United States and North Korea for 70 years.
For 70 years, both countries are saying the same thing.
The United States says North Korea is a threat to peace so all countries should work and confront by isolating North Korea. North Korea says The United States is a threat to their country so they work and confront by making nuclear weapon and missiles. Which country threaten counterpart first? is it important?

Blind/blind

>Interactive work

People are interested in others.
We steal a glance at others in SNS (social networking sites).
It is an undeniable fact that I sometimes want to see someone’s life through windows when I pass the houses: the warm lighting , sound of music and chatting catch my attention.
But we are losing ourselves watching gossip and media, especially SNS and magazines, by spending our time on our own. Do you remember the last time you heard your own voice?
I represent the instinct of peeking and self-recognition simultaneously in this work.

I'm not a robot.

>Projection installation

Whenever I signed up on a website, I have to prove I am human by entering distorted text. It is hard to read so I have to type it several times. and I don’t think my parent generation can do it.

Computer technology is developing to solve the CAPTCHA. More developed technology more difficult to prove we are human.  How can we prove ourselves? if we lose our identity cards if technology could copy physical information such as fingerprint, face, and eyes. Do we have another ability to prove ourselves?

I made this CAPTCHA in my way using coincidence, not algorism ;
I attached letters on the wall using the water. when the water dried, it dropped on the ground.
it might be easy to read at first, but it becomes difficult to recognize and gives frustration.

The wrong place

>This piece was guerrilla installation. I put this weeds in the crack in the building.

A weed is a plant in the wrong place even though it shows strong vitality by emerging through concrete. Instead of wondering about nature’s subtle presence, people tend to bother about it.What does ‘THE WRONG PLACE’ mean? People define and create the space according to our rules based on profit without consensus with nature; animals and plants are innocent by trying to survive. They were not supposed to live in our system that was designed for humans. We are also expected to live in the system. If we don’t fit in. we are considered failures, like a weed. However, I think there is no wrong or right place where we have to be and the path we have to follow.

COLORLOST

>My work changes the color of people and space with colorful shadow from the sunshine.
But it will lose the color at the end by leaking the liquid slowly.
So this piece is literally 'COLORLOST'

I have merged images of tourist spots from Google.
There are common things in there; blue sky, green field, and beautiful architecture.
We always want to go there someday.
But what if the landscape looks different from what we usually know?
The color of nature is disappearing by covering with smog.
This is not the problem which only a few countries are facing.
Because we share the sky and ocean on Earth.

WELCOME

Different from any creatures, humans are social animals. People live together in society and we make groups to belong to. For example, a family is a small unit to distinguish itself from others. We make an effort to protect and live in our family, with friends, and in countries; the trend started by ownership of things such as money, children, powers and so on. We put values on the things we own and belong to; the objects and social groups that we are involved in making distinctions between people. Furthermore, this framework erects discrimination and boundaries based on possessions.

A fence that is the boundary functions to protect our property, by being around the house. The fence n my work shows the word ‘welcome’. Ironically, ‘welcome’ expresses a duality, for it suggests a desire to both live together and yet apart from those who are different.

No boundary

We are all the human even though our skin colors, ethnicity and beliefs are different. This work started when I asked myself about when this boundary between people emerged. Our continents of the earth were one. I imagine the continents are all connected on the map without any boundaries. The slate in my work looks stratigraphic with layers that shows the history of Earth.

And this slate is not harder than other rocks so it is easy to split. I attached them together by sewing by hand because I feel sewing with yarn is something humanlike and warm.
In my work, the continents come together, revealing neither boundaries nor hierarchical principles.

Ground

The slates were used as roofs of houses; they mean not only our own places (home) but also Earth where we are standing. When we look at the world map, our continents are divided by nations. Although the landscape is different, it is just one globe when we look at Earth from the universe. So it is meaningless to separate places where we are living according to nationality, race, and the religion.
