Let There Be Light
A solo exhibition of mixed media light sculptures and poetry by Shahrzad Taavoni
Using her art as a way to release intense emotions, Taavoni?s light sculptures are romantic and colorful explorations of natural forms. Freely incorporating both traditional and non-traditional materials such as wire, ribbon, fragments of glass, glitter and recycled gumball machine domes into her process, the resulting light spheres glisten and cast almost psychedelic forms onto the gallery walls. Her poetry, recorded in her own voice and played in the background, adds depth and texture to the installation. Taavoni is inspired by healing, holy, sacred energy; for her, creation is a sacred and spiritual experience like materializing a prayer or an invisible force.

Johnny Unitas Mural Step 1Leadership Through Athletics is a recreational and training facility for basketball. It's organization has been responsible for forging the lives of young people for decades. Many local youth play and practice there and it's management has incorporated an ethical guideline for sustaining membership that centers on scholastic performance, stewardship, teamwork and mental toughness.I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with the center on the art project. The requested the creation of a series of murals on the walls of their study hall. The subjects were to be locally recognized professional athletes who have played for Baltimore teams. The themes were inspiring and space received tons of traffic...it's a muralist's dream job!
