About Duncan

Duncan Madaris Hill teaches photography at Loyola University of Maryland, and is the Johns Hopkins/MICA Film Centre Manager. He received his MFA in Photo and Electronic Media from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014. Originally from North Carolina, Duncan received his BA in Film Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2009.

Artificial Light

My photographs of artificial light look at how lighting influences our perception of a place. I look for locations where the illuminated surfaces tell a location's story. Whether by coincidence, or clearly designed intention, artificial light can inform, manipulate, and inspire.
