Winter 17' Paintings

Shapes and strokes are the vocabulary of my experience.

Experimentation and curiosity drive my studio practice.

In much the same way as sustained dialogue invites tangents that branch off from main topics, these compositions embrace improvisation and invention.

I hope to capture the energy that comes from the interplay of ideas and images that viewers can explore and bounce off each other.

Currently I am fascinated by how the surface of a painting is built. An initial concept committed to canvas gives way to a fresh idea. Rather than returning to a blank canvas, I choose to honor the preliminary image by allowing the revised concept to interact with the first layer. A painting that allows two separate aesthetics to be in conversation excites me. In addition, I have come to appreciate the value of letting go of preconceptions in my work.
