In the hands of the artist, Cheon took the liberty to extend the subtitle, “North-South Declaration of Partnership: Standing before the Unification Flag” based on the visuals and literature that writes, “We, people(s) must stand in our confirmed stance with respect and sincerity towards declaring partnership.” This painting represents the ongoing asynchronic communication between the artist and the North Koreans and that dreaming unification is from both sides of the Koreas. “North-South Declaration of Partnership: Standing before the Unification Flag,” oil on canvas by an anonymous North Korean painter, 23” x 33”, 2019, titled by artist Mina Cheon, owner of the painting. North Korean text translation: “We, people(s) must stand in our confirmed stance with respect and sincerity towards declaring partnership.” Artist Mina Cheon releases only black and white photos of her North Korean art collection so that visitors can see it in color in person.
