In the process of making my paintings, I clean my brushes and stencils on rags made from old cut up T-shirts. The combination of colors and patterns that appear on the scraps is not replicated in any of the rags. Though I didn't realize it would be, sewing the shirts back together is very much like making a painting or sculpture. It is a balancing act, a push and pull, and then, after days, weeks, months, you know it's done.
