This painting was my first to respond to a poem. As described in the "The Past is Never Dead...." the Lewis' poem was the springboard for remembering and honoring my husband's daughter who was tragically killed in a car accident the day after her fifth birthday. Lewis' poem, “For the Father of Sandro Gulotta” concludes with these words of comfort, "For the flower, if time lacked?
Had it not, like the children, all Time
In their long, immortal day?
Written for Vincenzo Gulotta of Milano whose son was dying of leukemia.
