Ceramic and Found Deer Bone;
I am interested in the fragility of life and the certainty of death. It is inevitable that every living organism experiences both life and death, however, only humans are aware of this and the majority finds this notion fearful. I study remains of once living animals as I find using other organisms makes for a more honest conversation about mortality than if human physiology and psychology were studied alone. Clay and found objects from nature are the materials used to address this topic as these sustainable and renewable resources reflect the life cycle of living organisms as they are all natural and directly from the earth. In doing this, I also explore aspects of both life and death simultaneously through various anatomical studies so as to make life a part of death as opposed to the two concepts being disjointed opposites.
