A family meeting. Big Mama has just learned that Big Daddy is dying of cancer, after she had been lied to about the nature of his illness. One of her two sons is primarily concerned with getting his inheritance; the other, Brick, a difficult man whom she adores, is disgusted by the mendacity of his brother and has held himself apart from the gathering.
