Richard's profile

Richard Niewerth attended and completed his BFA from the Maryland Institute of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 1967 on an awarded 4 year full State Senatorial Scholarship. A Teaching Assistantship at the University of Maryland, College Park followed as he completed his graduate degree in 1969. After an 18 month tenure teaching at his alma mater at Baltimore City College (high school) in Baltimore, Niewerth accepted a full time teaching position at AACC in January, 1971 after teaching there on a part time basis for a year.

Niewerth’s work has been extensively exhibited in one man and group shows throughout the Baltimore/Washington area as well as nationally and internationally. His work is included in numerous public and private collections.

In 1990 and again in 1992, Niewerth took a group of students to Arundel, England for an extended stay to paint England’s diverse landscapes. Painting on location has become a theme followed through in AACC’s Landscape Painting class offered for the past several Fall semesters.

Niewerth was chosen in 2001 to complete a painting of the US Capitol Building for the Official 2001 National Independence Day Celebration Commerative Poster. Posters were presented to all members of the US Congress and the President’s Cabinet. In the past year, he has had two solo exhibitions, a Retrospect of his work at Anne Arundel Community College and the Hamilton Street Club.
