Matt's profile

Matt Reeves (he/him) is a director, choreographer, filmmaker, editor, projection/mixed media video designer, and teaching artist. He has been making work collaboratively alongside his wife and artistic soulmate Colette Krogol for over ten years as the Artistic Director of Orange Grove Dance (OGD), a multimedia dance company that creates visually athletic experiences through the lenses of dance, film, and design. He holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Maryland as well as a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Florida. 

In 2020, Reeves received the Helen Hayes Award (“Outstanding Choreography in a Play”) for his work on Round House Theatre's production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which was hailed by the Washington Post for its “entrancing movement, imbuing Christopher’s fantasties with a dreamlike elegance and packing his Act 2 train ride to London with frantic energy. The visuals are striking…” Reeves has also been nominated twice by the New York Innovative Theatre Awards for his projection design work with The Guerrilla Shakespeare Project (2014 and 2018), and he continues to design, edit, and lead the development of all the mixed media video design content for Orange Grove Dance productions.

Reeves’ work has been produced nationally and internationally for museums, galleries, dance-cinema installations, film festivals, underground tunnels, city streets, black box theatres, and concert stages. Internationally his work has been produced and presented extensively by The Finlandia Foundation, The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Lönnström Taidemuseo, Raumars AIR, Officina Creativa, CerCCa, and Klaustrid at Skriduklaustir. On screen through OGD, Reeves has produced numerous independent dance films that have shown in cities from Munich, Germany to Boulder City, Nevada with the film The Archetypes being nominated for an ‘Arthouse Film’ award by the Stockholm Independent Film Festival and awarded ‘Best Dance Film’ by the Et Cultura Film Festival.

Matt has had the honor of dancing and collaborating with prestigious companies, such as Dendy/Donovan Projects, Neta Dance Company, Diavolo, CKM & Artists, David Dorfman, Gabrielle Lansner, Dance Tactics, and The National Yiddish Theatre. He has taught and created curriculum for the Wuhan Institute of Design and Sciences in China, the University of Maryland, the University of Florida,  as well as George Washington University. Most recently Reeves and Orange Grove Dance were commissioned by IN Series Opera  to create the OTHER CANTICLES film series based on the five musical works of British Composer Benjamin Britten.
