Katherine's profile

Katherine is in her MFA thesis year at Towson University. She is primarily a printmaker, specifically working with copper plate etchings and collograph prints. She worked for 2 years as a graduate assistant with the Printmaking Department (will be returning in the Fall to join Tonia Matthews, her mentor and printmaking professor) and taught Drawing for the first time as adjunct faculty with TU last Fall.

Katherine held the position of Arts Editor for the indepedent publication Open Lab Magazine from 2011-2016, where she interviewed international artists and curated a bi-weekly updated arts blog featuring interviews with Baltimore painters, sculptors, and printmakers.  Open Lab Magazine was founded in NYC by Delwin Kamara, a Towson University graduate.

Her current printmaking work seeks to explore the nature of anxiety, instability, and resilence, and is inspired by fastidious research on the neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy of the religious experience. These structures struggle to maintain balance amidst atmospheric voids. They are small prayers offered to the Divine; attempts to reach the Real. They are contemporary towers of Babel inspired by Home Depot scaffolding and 70s performance art with themes of endurance, ritual, and ecstasy.  Katherine is particularly influced by Marina Abromovic and Chris Burden.

This current body of work was created during a particularly prolific period of time in December of 2022 during a schizophrenic episode.  Stay tuned for more etchings, cause that's where the party's at.
