Jesse's profile

Jesse Satterfield is a multi-disciplinary Fiber artist, designer, craftsperson, performer, and critic. He creates artwork in order to unravel his own Queer experience through physical processes of connection and reconstruction using soft and hard materials.
"Queer is also a verb: To Queer is to upset heteronormative structures by revealing unique identity or celebrating social and sexual divergence."
Sculpture, weaving, embroidery, piecework, and garment-making are a few of the varied techniques utilized in the creation of Queered objects, spaces, or performance. Through writing, both critically and in text-based artwork, he examines his own identity, sexuality, and Queerness in relation to material sensibility, theory, and humor.
Satterfield's most recent works focus on the semi-abstraction or segmentation of male bodies. These pieces evoke sexual encounters between men as well politics of masculinity and body-image.
