Elizabeth's profile

Born and raised in Washington, DC, I now live and create in my Howard County home and studio.

I work in a variety of media but the bulk of my work is in watercolor, oil, or ink. Other works are completed using acrylic paint, colored pencil, encaustic wax and any combination of these, along with etching and relief printmaking. Many of my works are in private collections throughout the United States.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Art Education, with an emphasis on studio work from Towson University. During my undergraduate years, I attended Pratt Institute for over 3 years as a Drawing Major with a Minor in Illustration and took courses at Ohio State University while working with a medical illustrator there. I completed my Fine Arts degree through the University of Maryland University College where I graduated with honors. I am a recently retired Visual Arts instructor for Prince George’s County Public Schools where I taught visual arts at the high school level.  Beyond this, I was also a contract instructor at the Stamp Student Union’s Art and Learning Center at The University of Maryland, where I taught both drawing and watercolor classes to adults.

Currently, I spend my days creating art in my home studio. I continue to share and sell my work in as many forums as possible.

It is the physical act of drawing, painting, creating that I enjoy the most. The pencil gliding over the paper, wax, wood or canvas and the paint flowing or being scrubbed onto the surface is compelling for me. While painting or drawing, a story is forming in my head. This story often changes as the painting or drawing progresses, allowing me to become immersed in the experience as the art work itself guides the final details of development.

I create to convey my love of life and the nature of people and things sometimes developing into something more about peace with our environment and loss. Always, in the end, I hope to create a work that will bring the viewer to a place they want to be.
