Bruce's profile

In the first person: I had the enormous good fortune to win the 2014 William Matthews Poetry Prize, selected by Billy Collins. Past awards include the Harriss Poetry Prizewith Dick Allen serving as judge and begetter of its splendid (though, I fear, unwarranted) introduction, and the Artscape Literary Arts Award in poetry, chosen by William Stafford, another generous soul. Collins, Allen, Stafford - poets laureate all; is this the basis for a new conspiracy theory? Maryland State Arts Council Awards in both fiction and poetry. Varied magazine appearances. Occasional books. My newest volume (so slender as to barely merit the term), The Indulgence of Icarus, an extended consideration of fascism -- miraculously non-representational of my work -- was done up as a single book-length poem and recently  released by Echo Point. An earlier volume, Famous, is available through Amazon and fine booksellers almost nowhere. Four new volumes – one of semi-hilarious short stories, three of poetry -- are forthcoming  in 2017 via Hyperborea Publishing and BrickHouse Books. Does anyone actually read these statements, or am I just swimming alone out here? Alone? Then what is that circling fin all about? Gulp.
