Stephanie's profile

Stephanie Schafer is a mixed-media visual artist and  fine art photographer living in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her B.F.A. with an emphasis in photography from the University of Maryland in 2000.
Sometimes beautiful, sometimes haunting, her work is constructed by using a blend of digitally manipulated photography, collage, and painting on canvas and wood panel.
The mythic, religious, and psychological themes present in Schafer's work express the delicate balance between good and evil, while visually narrating the lives of her friends, family and self. She often incorporates her own hand-constructed mixed-media props, costumes, and back drops made out of wood, paper, and other natural objects.
She has been active in the non-profit arts community teaching expressive arts therapy classes to at risk youth and disabled adults, as well as displaying her work nationally.
Stephanie has a genetic condition called Albinism which is characterized by a deficit in the production of melanin and by the partial or complete absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. She is legally blind which profoundly influences her work.
