Glenn's profile

As a composer, sound designer, performer, lighting designer, and video artist, Glenn Ricci has been working with time-based media for over three decades. As a founder and Co-artistic Director of Submersive Productions, Glenn has engaged with over one hundred local artists in a unique and evolving collaborative process that melds design, performance, and world-building to create unique, impactful audience experiences.

For the past eight years, Glenn has focused on creating fully immersive artworks and their potential as an unexpected and memorable form of storytelling. By creating experiences that can be explored from many perspectives at once, his work is in constant conversation with the audience, bringing them into the center of the meaning-making process and letting them each construct their own narrative.

As Co-producer , Co-director, and soundtrack composer for "The Mesmeric Revelations! of Edgar Allan Poe" in 2015, Glenn created Baltimore's longest-running, wholly devised immersive theater piece, performing 62 sold-out shows over the Spring and Fall of 2015. "Revelations!" was a fully explorable world, built inside Enoch Pratt's historic home, and activated by performance, sound, music, light, design, art installation, history, and fiction, with several concurrent narratives for the audience to choose from. For this highly collaborative work, Glenn marshaled a team of over 30 members to develop, devise, build, and operate what became a national attraction with visitors traveling from as far as California, New York, Canada, and London.

Since 2015, Submersive has created over a dozen newly devised, fully immersive experiences. In 2017, they activated all four floors of The Peale Center and won many accolades with "H.T. Darling's Incredible Musaeum Presents: The Treasures of New Galapagos, Astonishing Aquisitions from the Perisphere." In 2018, they created "The Institute of Visionary History and the Archives of the Deep Now" -- a flexible installation and performance space that is difficult to classify and continues as a site for explorations in historical fiction and audience involvement. 2019 saw the debut of MASS/RABBLE, a butoh-inspired movement piece in which 30 ensemble members engaged with an audience of over 100 in the vast expanse of the Baltimore War Memorial.

As a member of the core creative team on the above projects, Glenn’s ultimate impact may seem elusive, but the consistent quality and critical acclaim for all of Submersive’s works speaks to his role as a common denominator in their creation.
