Corey's profile

Corey Hennessey is a Baltimore-based performer, musician, and artist. His favorite color is orange and his favorite animal is the giant anteater. A frequent collaborator with numerous local theator companies, he is also one half of the band Snake Charm and the creator of White Wing Dove.

White Wing Dove is a project based on uniting communities and inspiring collaboration.
Beginning in June 2019 with an enhanced recreation of Stevie Nicks's Bella Donna Tour, the project looks to highlight established living musicians from generally underrepresented groups through a performance consisting of a continuously rotating roster of artists, creating a massive unified locally-sourced supergroup. Through this, we can bring together artists from all over the city, audiences from diverse groups, and highlight the talent, skill, artistry, and joy that Baltimore has to offer, while celebrating the work of a cherished icon.

About Corey: Formerly an active company member with Stillpointe Theatre,  Corey has produced, directed, and performed in a multitude of shows, including  Murder Ballad (2016, named one of City Paper's Top ten performances of the year) and the titular role in Bat Boy: The Musical (2015). He is also a repertory actor and dancer with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society, where he has originated roles in five shows, including Ionos in The Terrible Secret of Lunastus (2011/2017, awarded Best Musical Actor in Baltimore City Paper) and Tariq in Electric Pharaoh (2014, awarded Best Actor by Bad Oracle). He was also part of the original cast of 1814! The Rock Opera, which ran seasonally from 2012-2014 in the DC Metro area, including an acoustic invited performance at the Maryland Governor's Mansion. Corey has also worked with Effervescent Collective (as part of the devising cast of Pull/Drift, 2013), Interrobang Theatre, Flux/us Dance Company, and The baltimore Museum of Art.

Previously graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in photography from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Corey most recently graduated with his Master's of Fine Arts in Theatre (specifically, experimental, new, and interdisciplinary theatre) at Towson University, where he conceived of, directed, designed, and performed in his first original work in 2015, Shapez, and wrote, directed, and performed in his first full length solo production in 2016, 404. He is currently an educator at Anne Arundel Community Cllege and Towson University.

Corey's original work and selected roles consistently focus on the highlighting of changing perspectives, selective reveal, and transformation. His roles are physically and vocally demanding, testing the limits and training of the body and mind. He is interesting in the melding of the visual arts with the performing work, typically incorporating elements of geometry and photographic composition into his performances.
